Sharing my experience with Uber for Freight – The Truck Booking App
Whenever a new service comes into the scenario, some people love it while some hesitate to try it out.
Well, I’m not going to lie as Uber Freight is a new
service. It’s been almost four years since the Taxi giant (Uber) ventured into
the logistics industry.
An app like Uberfor Freight says they want to facilitate the relationship between the
carriers and the shippers. But will the app work for the users (shippers)?
Let’s dig in.
How the Uber for Freight goes about load matching?
Both the carriers (truck drivers) and the shippers
have their unique set of preferences when looking for solutions. For the
carriers, it might be the maximum rate per mile, avoiding the return with empty
trucks, and so on. Whereas, for the shippers, it might be swift delivery,
real-time tracking, detailed invoice, and many more.
Uber Freight’s search algorithm is intuitive than
ever!
Moreover,
Ø Carriers can leverage the Uber Freight plus to ramp up their savings. This program lets the carriers enjoy available discounts at any time.
What about the map view?
Well, I know a neighborhood Truck driver using the
Uber Freight for almost a year now to get jobs.
Now, let me say in his words;
Ø
I don’t know how it was before; but
since I started using the platform, I could monitor the nearby loads with this
map view.
Ø
However, I have a service radius in
place. So, I should only accept thee loads within my service radius.
This is what the neighboring driver said to me.
(Note: I couldn’t reveal his name upon his request).
Can you launch a business like Uber for Freight?
Fortunately, Uber Freight is an open-source platform.
So, you can start a freight matching business.
Recently, Uber Freight’s alumni launched a similar
tech startup that connects fleet owners with the drivers.
(Haulwith.us is the name of that startup)
Even though the idea is similar to Uber, they have
found the real problem in finding the drivers for the trucks. So, automatically
these drivers could get loads thereby making some money.
